Chapter C · The FDA status

# What does the FDA status mean?

The Food and Drug Administration, usually called the FDA, reviews medicines in the US. Start with its record, then examine the offer.

## Read the status record

### There is no approved medicine

No medical use of BPC-157 had FDA approval in the US as of September 2026.

FDA approval is a review of a specific medicine for a stated use.

A service offering a visit does not change that medicine’s status.

### Taking back a request is not approval

Some groups asked the FDA to consider allowing pharmacies to use BPC-157 in medicine made to order.

They later took those requests back; the FDA did not approve the ingredient by recording that change.

The FDA page marked current on April 22, 2026 records those withdrawn requests, as checked in September 2026.

The FDA still warns about unwanted substances in the medicine and possible reactions from the body’s defenses. It says there is too little safety information to know whether BPC-157 could harm people.

### Headlines about a meeting need context

FDA staff proposed against adding BPC-157 to the pharmacy ingredient list in July 2026.

The agency had published no official committee vote record as of September 2026.

A committee can advise the FDA, but changing the ingredient list requires the agency’s formal rule process. That process includes a chance for the public to comment.

## Compounding has its own rules

Making a medicine, or changing one, for a patient’s particular need is called compounding.

A compounded medicine has no FDA approval or FDA review before marketing, as of September 2026.

### The ingredient question

For pharmacies making medicine for individual patients, federal law limits which raw ingredients they may use.

These rules apply to that kind of pharmacy whether you contact it locally or online.

As of September 2026, BPC-157 fails those ingredient rules for pharmacies making medicine for individual patients.

A prescription alone does not answer that ingredient question.

Your check to keep

## The question to keep

Ask the service to explain the exact basis for its offer. Ask for the source and its date. Keep approval and compounding as separate questions.

[Check the care route](/primer-questions/)

Ask the service why the pharmacy may use the proposed ingredient, and request a dated source for its answer.
