Chapter J · Read the record

# Read the source that fits the question.

Match the question to the record. Read how a study was done before its result, and read a table’s heading before its entry.

## Treatment records

### For the approval and evidence question

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reviewed what BPC-157 is, the human studies and the safety concerns in the same document.

As of September 2026, no BPC-157 treatment was FDA-approved, and the human studies could not show that it was safe.

It opens as a PDF, a document you can read or save. Look for the human experience summary and the conclusion.

### For the claim about a list change

Use the table’s heading, not just a search result about the ingredient.

The FDA page marked current on April 22, 2026 records requests to use BPC-157 that were later taken back. It still warns about unwanted substances, reactions from the body’s defenses and too little information about harm.

That entry does not provide a date for the withdrawal.

### For what compounding means

The FDA’s questions-and-answers page explains medicine made to order and who oversees the work.

Its distinction as of September 2026 is clear: compounded products are not FDA-approved.

Read this to learn how medicine is made to order. Then ask separately whether the pharmacy may use the proposed ingredient.

## Reading a study

### For a human result about knee pain

PubMed, the US National Library of Medicine’s research index, carries a summary of the knee-pain report.

It reviewed patient records and had no comparison group, so it cannot establish that BPC-157 caused the reported improvement.

Read the study method before the outcome. A report of feeling better needs that context.

### For whether a new trial has results

ClinicalTrials.gov is a US government website that lists studies and their plans.

As checked in September 2026, its listed study of injuries to the hamstring muscles, at the back of the thigh, had not reported results.

A listing describes what researchers plan to do and how far they have got; it does not prove that the treatment worked.

## For whether the visit meets the care standard

For online visits, the Federation of State Medical Boards’ guidance addresses health reviews and arrangements for later care.

The guidance suggests how state boards can set rules; each state decides which rules have legal force.

As of September 2026, rules for prescribing medicines differ by state. This guidance does not give a health professional permission to prescribe everywhere.

Your check to keep

### For your own next step

In your notes, write the claim you want to check. Save the source link and copy the sentence or paragraph that answers your question. Write down what is still unclear and ask about it during your visit.

Return to the questions page when you want a prompt for that conversation.
